The 'dream-maker'

When was the last time you found yourself helpless in your dream.....weeping....even dying to come out of that dream? You might have been relieved after you woke up and must have resumed your day by saying- "comeone it was just another dream." But did you try to find out ever what the dream signified...or what your sub-conscious mind was trying to tell you. I bet most of the people laugh off their dreams as mere khurafaat of mind.

Like Apoorv and Nishu (my friends who posted comment on my first post), many of you must have been wonderning how the world of dreams works. While Apoorv feels that dreams often help us to solve day to day problems to some extent, if not totally, Nishu finds the 'trip to the dreamy island far precious than otherwise cruel life.' Very true, that's the very magic of the dream-world.

I talked about 'construction of dreams' in my previous post. Well, I accept that I make my own dreams..not always but whenever I feel like...For this, I have to train my mind for several days to seek permission from my sub-conscious mind to do my bit of work on dreams..I must tell you that sub-conscious mind is very strong. It always tries to control your dreams. But for ruling your dreams, you must have a great imagination. Chances of constructing your dreams increase when you have a strong desire to do something that you cannot do in reality...For example- flying....Can you fly in reality?..of course not....can you fly in your dreams?..yes of course...

But how?

Well, let's take my own example. It has now been six years since I am flying..not in reality of course. But mind you, I had to learn how to fly even in dreams..So you have to learn everything you see. As far as construction of dreams is concerned, I have been doing that for 12-13 years now. May be I don't strive to achieve things in real life and those hidden desires take the form of dreams....but I am sure that's not the sole reason behind by creativity as a 'dream-maker.'

How do I make dreams?

Well, it's a little difficult to explain, but let me try. What if in the middle of the film Devdas (Sanjay Leela Bhansali's) , Paro suddenly says- hey I am Aishwarya Rai, what am I doing here? I need no director, I want to meet my Devdas. Similarly, in our dreams, if we suddenly discover that the situations are phoney and not real, while still asleep, then we can add our own inputs to the dreams and become a 'dream-maker.'

Let us take another example...You are being chased by a monster in a dream..you are terrified to bits and you just want to run away from that situation...Now suddently you realise that this whole thing was a dream. What would you do? Would you let your subconscious mind rule over your dream or decide to give a twist to the dream? Ok, suppose you want to give twist to your dream. Here the role of your strong imagination starts. Now you know that the monster is not real, it's just the product of your sub-conscious mind's creativity. Then, why fear? You can do something as bizarre as talking to him about India-Us nuclear deal. Or if you choose to do something more creative, then you can actually kill the monster with a secret power you just discovered you have. It depends whether you love action films, soap operas or talk shows.

I hope you enjoyed reading this 'dreamy' post.....Watch this space for more 'dreamy' stuff

Hey this is fully true. One could get overpowered by the 'monster' in ur dreams! I can admit to doing crazy things like call up my dad at 1 in the night to find out if he's alive! As u said, one can even control that 'monster', though it would be an achievement in itself! Your method of controlling and twisting the 'monster' to bits and pieces by personalising the ending to ur dream... :-) is very very funky and unique...So u see its ALL IN THE MIND!!! :D

well, i say when i was a small kid and a monster used to come in my dreams( not exactly a greeny, slurpy monsters but basically a ghost), i used to get scared. but now weirdly i shake hand with them and make frendship. maybe this is because now i know exactly that they don't exist watsoever may be the thing.
i never tried to really be a dream maker and i would never wanna be. why should i? i don't wanna manipulate it. they are telling me the hidden feelings, tensions of mine and through dreams brain is actually trying to ease of that tension by giving u false impression. i am happy with that.

anyways well done. keep writing.

Yep, I concur with you, Parmita. I've done a lot of stuff in my dreams, even to the extent of letting truly terrible nightmares continue because I want to know how they end.

Your article reminds me of an old Archie comic story I'd read -- Juggie said much the same things as you are doing.

Some times, however, dreams can even morph into out-of-body experiences, which I personally prefer -- rather than being anchored to my bed/chair/the earth/this reality.

I believe in what others have said - in a completely context - just lay back and enjoy.

Well apoorva, you have a point when you say why manipulate dreams when they are serving a purpose...but the process of dreammaking is a creative exercise and u come out as a strong person if u are able to control your dreams, because that way you come to know how you have to control your emotions in real life

Hi extra!! I understand what you are saying..Yes while experimenting with dreams, I have come across out-of-body experiences too... We should enjoy dreammaking at all levels and try to know the hidden aspects of our persona...

Hi Parmita.......dreams are so powerful that they affect your waking moments as well.....in fact, I've sen a lot of vivid dreams, which I've come to believe in, when I was awake....once I dreamt I was all alone on an island, and that my dear ones had perished in a boat wreck.....i woke up crying and sweating....it took me a while after I was awake, to realize it was all a dream...... in fact, dreams are an interesting subject of study and I'm highly fascinated.....can we have more on dreams, please?

wel me put it this wat parmita has said about realising that the montser is not real in ur dreams, actully wat happens is wat u do consiously, ur thinking , ur plan of actions ,ur feeling, ur desires ur sub consiuous mind simply accepts it without a logic or raising a question ,so in ur dreams ur subconsiuos mind cannot question wehther this reality or dream , it assumes wat is happening is real ,but... the ur reaction to the monster in dat dream can be changed thourgh ur subconsious mind only ,not by realising thta monster is not real cos ur subconsius mond cant judge dat but by builing a subcousious mind through ur consius mind that reacts on seeing the monster,

really u can change ur whole personality working on ur subconsius mind

Well Purav..that was an intelligent explanation..I am happy that atleast somebody is interested in knowing how our sub-conscious mind works...Good argument!!
